Urban Portraits of Wanzhou
2026-08-18 18:50:23

In Wanzhou, where the river surges onward, the old town stands quietly amid successive shifts of eras. Weathered brick walls, crisscrossed pipelines, and buildings clinging to mountain slopes form the substantial physical character of this old quarter. Ordinary people make their homes within this city woven of the old and the new. Li Fan places his subjects within their authentic living environments. Human figures are no longer isolated individuals, but coexist alongside alleyways, ageing buildings and everyday household belongings. Each portrait anchors the destinies of ordinary people within their own urban spaces. Here lies the tranquility settled by years, as well as the weight of ordinary lives embedded in the worldly warmth of the marketplace.
