Portraits of the New Yangtze Dwellers
2026-07-27 18:32:58

In Teacher Li Fan’s lens, the Yangtze River breathes with life. On windowsills, folk god paintings glisten with morning dew; elderly visitors doze on massage chairs; figures behind plastic tarps stand steadfast and unyielding; aprons splattered with mud sway atop stairwells. Vegetable plots stand side by side with high-rise buildings; wheelchairs by the river gaze into the misty water; ladders amid the hills hold bursts of laughter; elders linger in abandoned courtyards guarding old trees, children of old streets hold paintings in their hands, and a red garment flutters in the wind by the lakeside.

These new dwellers of the Yangtze shape their lives like the river’s waves—roaring with vitality, rooted in perseverance, and wrapped in gentleness.
